… But there’s not supposed to be a big hole in one of ’em!
Water leak, just around the corner from my house. It was detected by a city-bus driver who noticed his bus fell into a hole. Clearly this leak had been active for some time – weeks? months?
12″ Ductile Iron water main that was installed about 33 years ago… just rotted away.
Rather interesting: instead of digging out all the muck, they just called in a sewer-sucker truck and with a high-pressure water blaster, slurped it all out. This has many advantages over digging, but the biggest is that they don’t risk breaking into the sewer line 12″ deeper. But they were at this for hours anway.
