The van – in hiding.
So after all the drama, we’ve decided to sell the van:
- Purchased from Car Canada in January 1998
- appx 177300 kilometers (according to my mechanic’s invoice)
- Never been in any accident, not even a rear-ender
- very little rust, only just became visible
- 3.7l V6 engine in great shape
- Battery not a year old
- Features: It’s quite nicely loaded, tinted & power windows and mirrors.
- Dual Airbags
- Aluminum rims
- Tires 2 years old in January, lots of tread left
- Dual sliding doors
- Two removable bench seats, 6 4-point seatbelts
- Class II Hidden Hitch – but never used for towing anything. (We have a bike rack)
- Front stabilizer and tie-rod recently replaced
- Krown rustproofed a few times
- I can include most of our repair/service records
And then the ugly:
- Transmission rebuilt May 2003, 3 year/60000KM warranty
- Transmission/torque converter repair/replaced February 2005 (I’m not entirely clear on what was done, but it was covered by warranty)
- Transmission filled with water November 2005 (And I’m fairly sure this didn’t happen by accident… and apparently the warranty doesn’t cover this – suprised yet?)

Things that need to be addressed for a safety pass:
- Transmission troubles above
- Parking Brake ratchet replacement, possibly cable, not sure… hasn’t been a big problem for me
Where I’m at:
- My mechanic has offered me $500 for the van.
- Aaforementioned traansmission shop haas (written) estimaated $2100 for the repaair job…
- My mechanic feels very strongly that B&N can fix it up for a few hundred dollars (flush and torque converter repair)
- I simply don’t have enough money to risk repairing and then trying to sell it, I need to cut my losses and save for a new vehicle
- Once the transmission is fixed – it’ll drive quite well, beyond that – it’s a decent vehicle
- The plates are up in a couple weeks, and I need a highly-reliable (read: new) vehicle in the new year
So I’m asking if it’s worth $500 (or more) to anyone, if so – please let me know, either via email or leave a comment on my ‘blog here (I’ll get notified.)
