Sean and I hit Camp Fortune this evening. It wasn’t too bad; Marshall was closed, Clifford was scraped down, but Pineault and Sparks were in great shape…. and yes, I know they’re easy runs, but they were certainly enjoyable.
Sean was out with his new video camera, practicing and testing various techniques and stowage…. We started shooting people going over a box on Pineault (If I could land ’em, it might be more interesting) and at first it was just a couple guys going over, within about 10 minutes, there was 30 people lined up waiting. I guess the camera makes people want to show off.

I took some (er, most) of my Christmas money and bought the helmet I wanted. It’s pretty nice, don’t need to wear a tuque, no messing with getting my scarf, hood, hat and goggle’s strap all in alignment. It’s remarkably light and I barely noticed I had it on by the time I got to the chairlift. I can’t see any particular reasons *not* to wear one. Granted, this is a fairly pricey model ($200 MSRP, I paid $149), there was a near-identical model at T & L for $80, only differences were that it’s black and not ‘racing certified’… whatever that means. I could even wear earbuds for when I go solo, but I don’t think my BlueTooth headset would work all that well – not that I want to be using my cellphone at all while I’m on the slopes. Or go solo.
As a note to my local skiers and boarders: let me know whenever you want to hit the slopes, I’m often willing to go. I have week-night pass for Fortune, and I can usually get passes for Fortune or MSM for next to nothing, given enough lead time. I know that I can move at least 3 people and gear in the Element, maybe 4 with some careful manipulation of seats and skis… but unless I get roof-racks, I think 3 will be the max. I’ve shot Van & Truck World an E-Mail about it, as if I wasn’t broke already.
Now I’m going to go to bed and nurse all my sore and loose joints. (I’m actually posting this at 0211 on the 28th, but I’m backdating the post to show on the correct day… assume this is the case with posts at 2359 🙂
