Yay! I’ve now achieved LJ quality ‘blogging by whining about my life in ways that nobody cares about! At least me mum gave me a ride home! (Thanks Mom! I’m sure you’re the only consistent reader of my ‘blog at this point anyway! 😉
Today wasn’t too bad.
The brunt of it was spent sitting with Sami and educating him on Unix and my system management methodologies, I think he was impressed with my work. Thinking back, I impressed myself with some of the things I setup in the amount of time I did. There’s so many elements to the enviroment and it’s hard to keep track of them all. It all reminded me that I haven’t had the chance to teach Unix to anyone in a while. Even the Unixy questions on #SPORKS have dried up recently. But please don’t take this to mean I want to spend my evenings helping countless n00bs figure out how to dual-boot with Windows. Go get a Mac 🙂
(Ohh, devnull pointed me to a posting on XVI of someone selling a dual G4/800 for $600. Want. Tower. Yum.)
Chris arranged to get his Motorola Razr V3 today, but for some reason the dealer was giving him a hard time about getting one for me… There’s this sweet like $18/mo plan that you have to know about to get it, but apparently there’s a limit of one, and I’d have to be a gov’t employee (like that’s ever going to happen again) even tho the dealer told my father that it’d be okay for him to get me a phone on the same plan. *mutter* Apparently the guy offered to let Chris sign me up with a $25/mo plan that lacked voicemail and call-display, which in my line of work roughly equates a useless phone. Telus bill was only $107 this month, maybe my usage is dropping in general and I don’t need a second phone? I really do like my i830. Razrs look cool too, but do I really want to carry it around in addition to the phone, palm, pager, wallet and keys that I already do? Add to the iPod Santa was asking me about and whatever other accoutrements I lug around… maybe it’s not that significant after all?
Got the rest of the money from the van sale tonight, dude we sold it to seems like a cool guy. Hope it doesn’t cost him too much to get it back on the road. As I was giving him the pitch last night (well, 2 nights ago now) I had a moment of “geeze, why don’t I fix it up?”, uhg. Brain. Stop.
Had dinner with the family (This doesn’t happen very often), Mr B’s is decent; good food, fair prices. Waitress was cute.
Things are looking good at Server North, the new configuration of motherboards and systems seems to be reliable. The quest for cheap 1U clone servers is progressing nicely. Had another nibble for the managed colo service. Things could be very much worse.
Oh! And J-zizzle got the job with devnull, so this’ll be curious to figure out when Sean and I go for our (formerly) weekly Pho lunches. Damn Jill! EAT REAL FOOD! I’m going to attempt to use my influence there to have them prepare a vegitarian dish for her, but I feel like I’d just be encouraging her.
Remind me to write about Pho sometime. It deserves it’s own post.
And _why_ in $DEITY’s name is yesterday’s post getting 4 out 5 ads for Celine Dion?!?
