Some people have asked me why I don’t have all my photos from my Europe trip posted, this is why:

…Managed to kill the Portege’s hard drive while I was using it on last the Thursday in France, so the daily backup wasn’t made… and the previous backups were from Tuesday. To get everything since then, I’m doing data recovery on the disk.
I hear some of you at the back of the class whispering to eachother “What are backups?”
Tsk. Tsk.
Backups are a copy of your data. I carried near-daily copies of my data on a PCMCIA hard drive (got it from Helno), on a portable USB/Laptop hard drive (which was packed seperately in my suitcase)… and then I kept a copy of my diary entries on a USB keydrive as well (128MB for $16 at Grand & Toy, thanks dad!)

Recovery is going nicely still. Once I’ve got the disk-image mounted, I can begin to copy files out and start organizing for posting to the web. I’m not sure how I’m going to go about this though, posting directly to the ‘blog doesn’t seem right… the photo gallery isn’t going to tell the whole story at all, static pages are… okay… Maybe I need a second CMS… hmm…
What about Wiki!? I’ve been using snip-snap at one of my client’s, it’s pretty cool and rather fun… problem is that it runs on Java/Tomcat… and I don’t want to do that…
And now we see how a geek can lose an entire Saturday.
