I have a serious hate-on for 2010… but in some ways I had a pretty serious hate on for 2009, and 2008 etc… while I now realize 2009 was vastly superior to 2010, I think I need to look at what was positive about 2010, and realize that most of what made it suck will continue to do so after those drunken parties tonight.
Notable stuff that happened in 2010, in no particular order:
– Family trip to Costa Rica
– Got my guitars back, actually learned how to play songs in standard tunings (as opposed to drops!)
– A number of photography gigs (GTAT, Fashion show, DCO, Stila, Doucet/Election)
– Joined the RA Photoclub
– Had my photos published in fewer places than 2009, but in higher visibility venues
– Lots of TV appearances (because of the election)
– Finally gained Full-Member status on UER.ca
– Checked out some cool sites (Symes, Hearn, Foymount, Morrison’s Quarry, )
– Started actually getting paid real money by Server North!
Things that didn’t directly happen to me, but were important:
– Chilean Miners
– BP Deep Horizons oil disaster
– June Earthquake
– Olympics in Vancouver
Looking forward, I’ve decided that 2011 can’t suck as much as 2010 did, and I’m going to get all self-empowered and disallow things from making it suck. A lot of what made 2010 really hard was beyond my control, and that’s one of those things I’ve need understand; I’m not responsible for everything that happens, to me, or to other people around me. What I need to do is have more concern for myself than I do for others. I deserve it, and nobody else is going to make it their priority, so I have to.
Maybe it sounds cold, but that’s just it – I have to care of myself first, and that’s what I’m going to do. It doesn’t mean I’m going to become insensitive to others, but I’ll have to check how I’m doing first.
… Which may be why I’m going to end UnderExposure.
Delayed Post-post-script:
Oh, and to close out 2010 with extra panache, this ‘blob post was delayed by more 2010 awesomeness.
