<Myke> Welcome to Rogers HomePhone!
<edgecase> myke, what’s all the clicking?
<edgecase> rogers has 18Mbit/s D/L now!
<edgecase> I can use my quota up faster than evar!
<Myke> meh
<Myke> trying to work out my wireless data options.
<edgecase> bend over, hold out wallet
<edgecase> remove the s from options
<Myke> yeah, the plans have gotten worse
<Myke> I’m paying $60/mo for 12MB
<Myke> the next plan down is $40/mo for 8MB
<Myke> and I’m using ~10.2/mo
<edgecase> rogers uuber fast for 14 hours = your monthly quota, $2/gig afterwards
<hobbs> yow. Sprint has $60/mo for “unlimited”
<Myke> I don’t even know if/what my quota is for my Wave service.
<Myke> hobbs: we get raped sideways here
<edgecase> rogers wave?
<Myke> I used to have a $100/mo plan for 200MB
<Myke> but now that plan is only 60MB
<edgecase> the $99 is 95gigs
<edgecase> the $59 is 95 gigs
<edgecase> but it takes 24 hours to use it!
<edgecase> need to get a GSM hookup, use voice band for data traffic. the prices are silly for data service
<NetWrm> edgecase, nothing beats South Africa for ridiculous pricing
<Myke> NetWrm: what’s your price per megabyte on your GSM there?
<NetWrm> they are about R250 for 500mb
<Myke> that’s $31CAD
<Myke> 500MB on my Rogers GSM phone would cost somewhere in the $400CAD range
<NetWrm> yikes
<Myke> or about 4000R
<NetWrm> I thought canada was a first world country?
<NetWrm> heh
<Myke> *Canada* beats S.Africa for ridiculous pricing
<NetWrm> agreed on that one
<Myke> NetWrm: that’s the joke
<Myke> we have worse data pricing than most 3rd world countries

<NetWrm> it’s ridiculous

I was considering scaling back the dataplan on my Treo and getting the basic WiMax radio so I can use my MacBook Pro with it… Clearly not worth it. I wonder if I can live without data on the Treo at all, just to I can give my overpriced dollars-per-kilobyte to say… Telus. (Go Telus GSM go! Bring us an iPhone!)
